Where We’ve Been
River of Life Worship Center (originally Spotsylvania Assembly of God) was founded by five area families who desired to see an Assemblies of God church located in Spotsylvania County. Their prayer was that this new church would become a lighthouse to the county and surrounding communities. In March 1986, they received approval and support from the Potomac Distric Council of the Assemblies of God to establish a home mission church.
After praying for a leading pastor, Pastor Alan Bosmeny and his family answered the call and moved to the area from Florida. Spotsylvania Assembly began and held its first service in September of 1986 at the home of Tommy and Vicki Kellison.
As the church grew, Spotsylvania Assembly moved to the Holiday Inn South in March 1987. Eight months later, the church relocated to a larger facility. The Spotsylvania Assembly community began meeting at the Howard Johnson in November of 1987 where it flourished for the next two years.
During this time, Spotsylvania Assembly recognized the need to find a permanent location and began actively seeking property on which they could build. In 1988, Donna Bosmeny noticed a sign on the property upon which the church building now stands and efforts began to purchase the site. Worship services were held in the new building in the winter of 1989. The church continued to grow and the addition of a larger fellowship hall and classrooms was constructed in 1995 and became available for use in September of the same year.
Spotsylvania Assembly saw a transition in leadership in November 1997 as Pastor Bosmeny, in obedience to the call of God, moved to Elkton, Maryland. At this time, Pastor Dale Donadio, the Youth Pastor, also accepted the call God was placing on his life to move to a Senior Pastor position.
December 1997, Pastor Dale Donadio became Senior Pastor of Spotsylvania Assembly and brought with him a passion to see the surrounding communities come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Over the next few years, Spotsylvania Assembly’s membership grew to double its capacity. With this growth, the church body recognized the need again to ‘enlarge its tent post’ and purchase additional property. In December 1999, ten acres were purchased for future growth.
Our new family life center was completed in 2007 and is our new church sanctuary allowing us to come together to worship in one service. The children and youth ministries now have their own facility, classrooms and room to grow.
