River University Class Descriptions

Membership 101 & 201 – 3rd Sundays

101 Membership Class

WHAT: This class is for people who want to explore membership and desires to learn more about ROLWC history, organization, vision and values. This class will be a prerequisite in becoming a member at ROLWC. 
      

201 Growing Your Faith

WHAT: This class provides tools for discipleship.  It will cover practical topics like; how to read and under-
stand the Bible and how to pray effectively. 
      

Membership 301, 401, and 501 (TBA)

301 Your Ministry Gift

WHAT: Every person has a unique purpose in life.  This class will help you explore your S.H.A.P.E. for ministry—Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Ability, Personality and Experiences.  Having identified your gifts and potential, you will be ready to be deployed into the service of their Master.
 

401 Becoming a Team Leader

WHAT: Leadership takes many forms in ROLWC.  There is a place of leadership designed for your S.H.A.P.E.  This class will help you learn how to be a biblical leader. 101, 201, and 301 are prerequisites. After a review, this requirement may be waived for members transferring their church membership from another church.
  

501 Becoming a Leadership Mentor or Coach

WHAT: This class will be designed to train members to become a leader of leaders.  This will help inject the spirit of accountability to our new leaders. Attendees for this class will be chosen through prayerful consideration and invited to attend. 
 

Note:  101, 201, 301, 401, and 501 will all be held in the Worship Center.

Teen Girls’ Class (ages 12 to 18)

WHERE:  Worship Center—Room 202
WHAT: This class will challenge girls to be accountable to God and to one another.  It will stress the importance of pursuing an authentic relationship with God through daily Bible study, scripture, memorization and prayer as they understand and follow God’s perfect plan for their friendships, faith, family relationships, and future.
 

Teen Boys’ Class (ages 12 to 18)

WHERE:  Worship Center—Room 203
WHAT: Our middle and high school boys class is designed to focus on discipling our young men.  Weekly we will focus on God’s Word and how we can be changed by the renewing of our minds.  Come join us as we dive into life God’s way!
 

Young Adults (ages 18 to 30 years)

WHERE:  Worship Center—Room 207
WHAT: Attention all young adults! Come study God’s word and learn how to be “relevant” in our families, workplace. and community. We will discuss the seven spiritual disciplines that will produce growth and vitality while also guiding you to become the
person God wants you to be.
 

LIFE (Young Married Couples)

WHERE: Youth & Children’s Bldg—Pastor’s Office
WHAT: This group is designed to be a place for you to gain knowledge, understanding and wisdom in relationships straight from God’s Word.
The group time will consist of fellowship, interactive discussion and a time of relational prayer. Each Sunday will be a step closer to a real and genuine relationship with your spouse, children (or children yet to come), friends, family and ultimately God.

Developing a Biblical Worldview

WHERE: Worship Center—Room 205
WHAT: Everything that is done in society today is influenced by a specific worldview. This class will teach the  different types of worldviews influencing our culture and will show you how to effectively make your witness for Christ relevant to  people with opposing worldviews.
 

Escuela Dominical

WHERE:  Worship Center—Room 208
WHAT: Using the “Way of The Master” materials. the basic course will be instructed in Spanish. This is the forum for the Hispanic members of our congregation to study God’s word in Spanish.
 
Utilizando el libro, “La Guia del Maestro”, esta clase es para todos los miembros hispanos y no hispanos de  nuestra congregacion que deseen estudiar la palabra de Dios en espanol.
 

Journey to the Promises

TEACHER: Bob Dickens
WHERE: Worship Center—Room 204
WHAT: This exciting class will continue to look at God’s dealings with a divided kingdom. The glory days of King David and Solomonhave passed. Rehoboam, Solomon’s successor, now rules over the house of David and is king over the remaining tribes of Israel. We shall examine the love, faithfulness, mercy and justice of God, as He deals with Israel’s idolatries and lack of faith and devotion to His Word,
as well as, the ministry of the prophet—God’s mouthpiece.
 

Understanding the Bible

TEACHER: Pastor Jacob Al-Hassan
WHERE: Worship Center—Room 206
WHAT:  Understanding the Bible isn’t for the few, the gifted, the scholarly.  The Bible is accessible.  It is meant to be read and comprehended by everyone from armchair readers to seminary students.  A few essential insights into the Bible can clear up misconceptions and help us grasp the meaning of Scripture and its application to our lives in the 21st century. This class will help  you interpret the most difficult passages of the Bible.

Revelation

WHAT: This is going to be an expository study of the book of Revelation.  Revelation  has been  misunderstood, ignored and unnecessarily debated.  As we journey through this amazing book,we are going to see God glorified and our hearts challenged.

Marriage Enrichment

WHAT: There is no formula that will fit every couple.  Yet, all of us are valuable in God’s eyes.  Marriage is exciting and full of surprises.  Finding our purposes in our marriages is the journey.  If your marriage, like all marriages needs a tune up, then this course is a must.  Believe us God has a plan and purpose for each couple and crazy as it sounds, it will be different for each couple. Come on out and discover what that plan is.  We will use DVD’s, books and 23 years of counseling experience as well as our own life experience to help you discover that plan.

Radiant Life

WHAT: Unit 1: Jesus’ Life and Teachings (Luke) Luke’s Gospel focuses on the humanity of Jesus and how His life and teachings revealed that God cares for all people. Jesus’ life provides you with an example to follow and His teachings guide you in how to live pleasing to God. Unit 2: Ruth and Esther Women often get overlooked in the study of the Bible. Believers can fail to focus on the contributions they have made or the lessons that can be learned from their examples. This unit will draw attention to two women who faced great difficulties and challenges in life, and who found victory through their faith in God.
 

Healing Is a Choice

WHAT: Discover the 10 choices you must make and the lies you must reject to open the door for God’s healing from chronic physical pain to deep emotional hurts.  We are all at some level in need of healing and healing, writes author Stephen Arteburn, is achoice—it is God’s choice.  While that may lead us to understand that healing is out of our hands, there are several things we do or believe that can stand in the way of God’s healing in our lives.
 

Experiencing God

WHAT: Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God will lead you in a 12-unit study of the Bible to learn how to know God better, how to know when God is speaking, and how to adjust your life and ministry to God’s revelation of His will.  The daily study of the interactiveworkbook and the weekly small-group version will help you develop a confident, personal relationship with God through which He reveals Himself
and His will.

Mormonism – What You Need to Know

WHERE:  Worship Center—Room 208
WHAT: Are Mormons Christians?  Was Joseph Smith a true prophet?  How different is the Mormon plan of salvation? Do we serve the same God and Jesus? In this class, we will answer these questions and more, as we explore the inconsistencies in Mormon teaching using their own literature: The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price, in comparison with the Bible. This class will equip believers to be able to lovingly show Mormons the errors of their belief and point them to the Jesus of the Bible.

Discover You

WHAT: 

An exciting new course for women is prepared to challenge and provide you with tools to move you from where you are in your walk with Christ to where you want to be. Using Beth Moore’s book, Get Out Of That Pit, personalized coaches will walk with you through the class  helping you identify areas you feel stuck, unable to stand or have lost vision.  Led by Pastor Angela Donadio, her training in coaching and experience in ministry will serve as the basis for curriculum designed to empower and equip you.

WHAT: This class will enable you to understand what God’s will and plan is for you in the workplace..  We will examine the spiritual principles many of us have heard for so long and discover just how relevant they are to what we do at work and how intricate they are in God’s plans for us.

Crown Financial

WHAT: The recent economic situation has driven many believers into financial hardships. The Crown Financial Series is a perfect place to begin to discover sound financial advice. This class will give you an opportunity to learn time-tested biblical financial principles.
